LACONIAN SOCIETY
The Laconian Society of Atlanta, Georgia was established in 1984. Although an independent organization, it is a chapter of the Pan- Laconian Federation of the United States and Canada, Inc. Its current membership is approximately 200 members. It is governed and managed by a Board of Directors composed of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Corresponding Secretary and nine Directors. The Officers and Board usually meet on the third Wednesday of each month.
The Laconian Society is a social, philanthropic and benevolent organization composed of males and females over 18 years of age.
The purpose and objectives of the Society are:
1) to organize anunite all persons whose ancestry is derived from the Province ofLaconia, Greece, either directly or by way of affinity;
2) to encourage, promote and engender loyalty, good citizenship and allegiance to the United States of America and its constitution and laws;
3) to provide financial aid and assistance in general to its members, the Greek Community in Atlanta, and support various educational, religious and health projects in Laconia, Greece;
4) to promote communion and association among its members, pride and love for the heritage, customs, ethics and traditions of their ancestors;
5) to develop better relations and understanding between the American and Greek people.
