Dear Fellow Parishioners:

It gives us great pleasure to announce that the Parish Council has approved the creation of a History Committee for our Cathedral.

Why such a committee? Our Church, which was formed largely by our immigrant ancestors, has a unique story to tell. How often have we all wished that our yiayias, papous and other dear friends were still with us so that we could ask them about their early experiences and their coming to America. And while it is true that we have lost many wonderful tales, there are still many to be told. And you, our fellow parishioners, can help write these missing chapters.

What will this committee do? We will be collecting oral histories by videotaping interviews with parishioners, and we will be asking you to bring treasured family and community photographs and memorabilia so that they can be copied and properly archived. We will also plan exhibitions of what we collect and develop a web site for the committee. And we want to do a video documentary on Greenwood Cemetery and the rich community history that is there.

Other Orthodox parishes have created similar committees and have been greatly enriched by their formation.

Our community is rapidly approaching its 100th anniversary. Our new community center facilities have a room that will be used for the storage and display of all the information that we gather.

Everyone has a story to tell and share, and we want yours! This is an exciting project and has been met with great enthusiasm.

The Parish Council has asked Stephen Georgeson and Antigone Woodward to chair this new endeavor. All are welcomed to join and serve in any capacity.

Further information will be forthcoming, and we welcome your participation.

Yours in Christ,
