PARISH PROFILES
GENERATIONS: Dodys/George Family

GENERATION ONE
Nicholas Charles Dodys (above with moustache and tie) came to Atlanta in 1904, after working on the Railroad out West. He saw his future wife, Helen Vlahospiros (above) on a trolley car in Atlanta and fell in love with her. They were married in 1913. Nicholas became one of the founding members of the school board created by the parish in 1914, He was one of the founding members of Danaos Society. His wife, Helen Dodys was one of the Ladies Society which built Saint Barbara's Chapel at Greenwood Cemetery, in 1929. She also raised money for and commissioned, in 1916, the large silver icon of Saint Peter of Argos which now graces the Chapel in the Administrative section of the Hellenic Community Center.
GENERATION TWO
The Children of Nicholas and Helen Dodys were Charles N. Dodys (far left child, above), George N. Dodys (second child from the right), Pedro N. Dodys (second child from left, above), Angelo N. Dodys, (far right child above), Mary Francis Dodys (with whom Helen is pregnant in the picture above) and James N. Dodys. George Dodys became, along with one other, the first american born to serve on the Atlanta Parish Council. He was also a leader of Danaos Society for a number of years. Charles Dodys was chairman of the building committee for the original Hellenic Center, located at 2124 Cheshire Bridge Road, which was completed in 1956. Pedro Dodys was the first to die in World War Two from our parish. Angelo Dodys' wife, Harriet, was a leader in Philoptochos on the parish, Diocese and Archdiocese levels. Mary Dodys was in the first choir at the Atlanta Parish. She married Pete (P.G.) George from Macon, Georgia, who was an executive with Ford Motor Company for a number of years. Mary George was also President of the Daughters of Penelope. Together, P.G. & Mary George have served the parish and done many philanthropic works over time.
GENERATION THREE
P.G. & Mary George had two children, Les and Ellen. Ellen & Les were on the original steering committee which was appointed to create the Young Adult League in Atanta. Ellen has taught Sunday School and was President of the Daughters of Penelope as well as serving on the District level in that organization. Les was the first elected president of Atlanta YAL. Later he served as an officer on the Parish Council as well as the Hellenic Center Trust. He was president of Danaos Society. In addition to other forms of service, Les is primary webmaster of the Cathedral's website. George Dodys' son, Nicholas G. Dodys, succeeded Les George as president of Danaos Society.
GENERATION FOUR
Les George married Mary Alice Vasilos of the Atlanta Parish. They have two childeren, Evangeline and Pete. Evangeline is an officer in GOYA. Pete is an altar boy. They become the fourth generation of this family to serve our parish in a formal capacity.
