We, on the Team, are proud to serve this ministry every Sunday after liturgies and on special occasions held at our Cathedral. We’re located in the Educational Building, just a few steps off Carlos Hall. From its beginnings in the early 1970s, the bookstore evolved from a single display case in Carlos Hall, to the former classroom in which we are now located. The early inventory consisted of a few crosses, some books and icons. This was the offering for several years under the leadership of Helen Economy Canellos. The inventory grew, the leadership changed to Bob and Tina Shuford, then to Tommy Vort. In 2006, the leadership again changed to the present team, the inventory grew into what you see today. We have a plethora of Orthodox books, icons for your home celebrating your Saints, imported from Greece, from Belarus and from various monasteries. They range in price from $10 - $300. Our beautiful Byzantine gold crosses and religious jewelry are in our fine gift cabinet. We have many informative books on Orthodox traditions, Orthodox faith comparisons, Orthodox Education and study, Bibles, including the New Orthodox Study Bible which took 20 years to compile and publish - a “must have” for your family library!
:July 20-23, 2010, The Diocese of the South, Orthodox Church of America Assembly was held at our Cathedral. In spite of the extreme heat in Atlanta, 200 conferees either drove or flew in to attend a wonderful educational Assembly, from all over the country. We opened our bookstore from 8:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. to serve our Orthodox family — and serve we did! They were complimentary, gracious and very eager to support our ministry. Our bookstore offerings we well accepted which made us feel very good about our ministry. Our sales exceeded $1300 for the 3 days they were with us. We thank them very much and welcome them back!

Challenge Questions on Orthodoxy A to Z for Students, and More Challenge Questions on Orthodoxy A to Z for Students Volume 2 by Gayle E. Woloschak:
This two volume set of books is an invaluable teaching and inspirational Orthodox Christian resource for our young teenagers. Each book has a series of questions, categorized by topics including the following: Old Testament; New Testament; Church history; Church year: feasts and fasts; Church traditions and teachings; liturgics: liturgy, sacraments and vestments; words and symbols; and Orthodoxy and other American religions. These books contain essential questions that every Orthodox Christian should know the answer to and, at times, contain very challenging questions that, unfortunately, many Orthodox Christians do not know how to answer. The answers to the questions are provided sequentially, in the back of each book, so that the reader can determine his or her accuracy in answering the questions and learn the correct answers to questions that he or she has missed. Volume 2 of this set is more difficult than the first of the series and is a great follow up to Volume 1. These books are not only informative, but also interesting, and should be a part of every Orthodox Christian's home library, as they not only provide quick answers to questions important to our faith, but they also inspire the reader to read more of the Bible and more about our Church. It is a great way to peak your young adults' interest in finding out more about their faith, so that they can draw closer to God and also be a more effective witness to those who are not Orthodox Christians. Both of these books are now available in our bookstore, and would make an excellent gift for any occasion.

A Tiny Step Away from Deepest Faith – A Teenager’s Search For Meaning by Marjorie Corbman:
Marjorie Corbman eloquently and precisely tells her story, a teenager’s story, of the search for meaning beyond herself, beyond what “authority figures” in her life tell her to believe and beyond what traditional religions tell her to believe. Her journey begins with a ritualistic faith in the Reform Jewish tradition in which she was raised. Her search takes her through many pagan philosophies and religions as she seeks the Absolute Truth. She discusses what most modern teenagers experience – and many modern adults, for that matter – searching for the true faith, the only faith, the meaning of life and recognizing the emptiness of idolatry and self love. She discusses, very honestly, how she came to believe in Christ wholeheartedly and how she became an Orthodox Christian – not because someone told her to, but because her inquisitive nature led her to read the Bible and the writings of the holy fathers which together, with the prompting of the Holy Spirit, led her to Christ. She knew, after all of her searching and studying, that she had finally found the true fai
th in Orthodox Christianity. She closes the book with chapters on the importance of obligations that come with our faith - that our rights only stem from our obligations that we have fulfilled according to God’s will. She discusses the importance of loving one another as Christ loves us – not in a selfish way, wanting something in return, but unconditionally as Christ loves us. Marjorie’s true story is difficult to read at times for those of us who are vehemently opposed to pagan philosophies and some of the religions that she admits following before her conversion to Orthodox Christianity. However, this is one of the reasons that this book should be at the top of all Orthodox teenagers’ reading list – it explains precisely why those religions are wrong from the perspective of someone who practiced those religions and explains theologically and rationally why Orthodox Christianity is the true faith and the true religion, with salvation through Christ and taking up our cross and following Christ as the answer we all seek that will bring meaning to our lives. This book is now available in our bookstore.
